Choosing Your Subject
Painting is all about expressing yourself. Creating a picture of what's going on in your mind, and allowing others to see what you are feeling. It doesn't matter what your subject is as long as you are comfortable painting it. Some of the better subjects are those that offer color and contrast. It should be something interesting but not too much activity. By taking a picture or looking at pictures, you get ideas on what you want to paint and you will see the contrast, lighting and textures to use as your guideline. If you have an idea in your head, you might want to draw it first before you paint. This way you have a guideline to go by or transfer onto your paint surface. As long as you're creating and having fun, that's what it's all about.
Painting Picture Ideas
I've gathered together a few painting picture ideas for you to use as models for the subjects of your paintings. You can also take your own pictures or search the internet on any subject you want. Use your smart phone to take pictures when you see something really cool that you might want to paint later. By taking a picture or looking at pictures you can get ideas on what you want to paint. You will see the contrast, lighting, and textures. It's hard to paint a picture of something that's moving and then you have the advantage of painting your picture at your leisure.
Use your imagination and add to the pictures or change them in any way that you want. For example: You can use a beach scene for the background and then use a picture of your dog, cat or any animal and put it on your beach scene. Another example would be: Paint an abstract background and have flowers or trees as your subject. Birds also make nice subjects to paint. The possibilities are endless.
The pictures are divided into categories to make it easier for you to find your subject. Just click on the link under the picture of your choice.
